As an American Expat, I have had to deal with additional concerns that some other nationals do not deal with when they relocate abroad. American ex-pats are well aware of the financial responsibilities we must adhere to as US citizens or US-connected individuals living outside the United States.
Acronyms like FATCA, FBAR, PFIC become standard yearly concerns when planning finances and tax efficiency.
In addition, some of us live and work in multiple countries throughout our time as ex-pats, and multiple pension jurisdictions are also factors.
Life planning, health insurance, retirement planning, all have extra layers of complexities when you are an American abroad.
When I was relocated to Europe to help develop a global financial services brand with a niche in servicing ex-pats, I lead a marketing and development team and together we created a strong financial education source for American Expats.
As an American Expat working in financial services, I have acquired knowledge and resources that should be shared with other ex-pats. That is why I chose to incorporate financial education into this blog.

I’m an ex-pat too!
As an American Expat living and working overseas for almost a decade, I have learned firsthand the tax complications of being American. As the United States taxes its citizens wherever they reside, I have dealt with multi-jurisdiction tax issues. I’ve been self-employed for many years, which in itself presents additional tax burdens. Ironically I relocated to Europe to help a client build out its financial services global division which was niched in servicing Americans overseas. I was producing content geared towards my peers, the American ex-pat dealing with the same tax issues I found myself swimming through.
Financial Education is important, especially as an American abroad. This is why I include this topic on this blog. I have been privileged to acquire good knowledge on this topic. The type of information that can help a new or seasoned ex-pat navigate the financial complexities of being an American overseas.
US tax laws are complicated but with a good tax advisor and staying in the know with tax law changes, ex-pats can stay ahead of the curve. The tax laws section of this blog is dedicated to keeping Americans abroad up to date with IRS changes and articles or news that keep you in the loop.
Growing up American and then adulting in America means you are well aware of insurance needs, especially health insurance. Another complication of being American.
Resources were scarce when I initially became an ex-pat a decade ago. These days ex-pats have more access to services like health insurance. Digital nomads especially need to be conscious of having access to health insurance that covers them in multiple jurisdictions.
